DAY 3 : TAMAN SIMALEM RESORT – KUALANAMU AIRPORT
Once upon a time, a young, hardworking farmer named Toba lived in North Sumatra. One day, while fishing in the river, he caught a large, magical golden fish. The fish transformed into a beautiful princess who had been cursed to be a fish until a human touched her.
Deeply moved by her beauty, Toba fell in love and asked the princess to marry him. She agreed, on one condition: Toba must never, ever reveal her secret—that she was once a fish. They married, and in time, had a son named Samosir.
As the years passed, Samosir grew up with a mischievous and lazy streak. One day, his mother sent him to bring his father lunch in the fields. Samosir grew hungry on the way and ate most of the meal himself. When Toba saw the meager scraps left, he flew into a rage.
In his anger, Toba broke his sacred promise and shouted at his son, “You are an ungrateful child, just like your mother, who is a fish!”.
Upon hearing this, the heartbroken princess knew she could not stay. She tearfully instructed Samosir to climb to the highest hill and save himself. As she wept, she transformed back into a large, golden fish and leaped into the river.
The sky turned dark, and heavy rains began to fall. The earth trembled, and water gushed from the ground where the princess had stood. The floodwaters rose rapidly, swallowing the entire valley. Toba was consumed by the flood and drowned. The valley was submerged, becoming the immense Lake Toba.
Samosir, who had climbed to the highest point, survived. The hill he stood upon became the beautiful Samosir Island in the middle of the new lake.
